  ive been visiting this site for about 8 months, just taking in all your comments and the issues that are of importance to those who have been jehovahs witnesses and the problems that you have identified with the religion.

  i was brought up in the truth in the 60s and 70s but my parents left before i reached the age when i would consider being baptised.

  subsequently my parents divorced but have remarried separately and are both back in the religion.

  Looks like there is a religious pedophilia push on at the moment.
  The issue is front page here in Australia.
  The opposition is calling for the Governor General to resign over accusations that, while Archbishop, he covered over accusations of pedophilia brought against priests.

  did you have narrow minded turds as elders/overseers in your congregation?

  yup so did i...they're everwhere.. "there was this one time..at band camp"....it was in a hired hall actually...where we used to organise congregation functions like farewells etc.

  this usually consisted of food...non alcoholic beverages...and some entertainment...usually square dancing and some skits...and a presentation or speech.. at one function a particular elder was offended that the 'gay gordon' was one of the dances for the evening...so he promptly left...yup...at the next function it was renamed the 'happy gordon'...as his conscience wouldn't allow him to attend otherwise.

  Hey Beck.
  I had the dubious honour of bein the first in my congo to get "publicly reproved". The new ruling on public reproof had just been revealed. Guess they wanted to test it out.
  anyhoo, later they decided that my case didnt warrant public reproof after all.
  THe elders wrote a letter of apology to my FATHER.
  Meanwhile...refiner is an ostracized PARIAH. NOone said a word to me for months!
  Aint it lovely??

  I was at a party once at the Hoag and Bosch residence where an elder took his teenage kids home because a Fleetwood Mac record was on the stereo.

  Post your worst date story!

  with all the nice guy/bad boy and do looks matter posts doing so well i thought it might be fun to do a worst date ever post.. so here goes mine: about 3 years ago my married friend had a neighbor she was good friends with he was a young widower with 2 kids and she thought we might like to get to know each other.

  so we agreed to meet for dinner at his apt (he lived 2 apts down from my friend so it did not seem awkward or unsafe).

  he cooked spaghetti and afterwards pulled out the old photo albums.

  Worst date?
  Ask approx 100 women who have been out with me!

  But... once I went out with a woman from work, she was 35 and I was 22.
  Anyway, first date on the way to the restaurant, she throws up.
  Super nervous.I have to pull into the gutter to let her barf.
  Not that I condemned her for that.

  Once we get to the restaurant she tells me her whole life story about how her husband beat her, made her have sex with taxi drivers while he secretly filmed them..the whole bit.The womans a psycho wreck.
  On the way home, she throws up again.
  I end up staying the night.
  The woman Im with has a ten year old kid. The kid goes hysterical when he realizes a man is staying overnight in mummys bedroom.
  The bed squeaks like nothing you could believe.
  WEEKA.. WEEKA.. WEEKA ..WEEKA.

  Next morning I wake up, and her dogs are on the bed. Little yapping hairy monsters which she insists I be nice too.
  On the Radio I am awoken by a song called "I believe in love" Country and western. I hate country and western. I still cant listen to "I believe in Love" to this day.
  Im outta there.
  Driving away I know I will never see her intimately again.
  Once was enough!

  Whats the dumbest thing you were counselled for?

  i was once counselled by the elders for watching 'knots landing'....it became widely known in the congregation that me and a few other sisters would rush home from field service to watch our favourite soapie.

  if we missed it, we would ring each other up for an update...or...if we weren't near a tv we would ask someone to put the phone handset on the top of their tv so we could hear it...pathetic huh...but that was all the excitement we could scrounge up in our otherwise dull and uneventful lives.

  one of the elder's wive's conscience got the better of her...and she confessed to her husband..lol.

  Wasnt me, but I knew a young guy in our cong got councelled for drawing a picture of the "shulamite maiden" during a Watchtower meeting. Breasts of figs,lips of honeycomb, hair like burnished copper and all that. Saw the pic. great creative drawing.
  Some old biddy sat behind him thought it "irreverent" and squealed to the Elders.

  I once got some guys councelled, at an assembly, there were a load of brothers keeping night watch, I was one. Some of the boys got rowdy and I ratted them out.

  Oh!! I did get councelled once!
  Four of us young lads got chewed out for hunting deer in the woods NAKED. I took pictures of the escapade, someones brother saw them and squealed us out.

  i started wondering about the "nice" guys (such as myself).... it's been my experience that women tend not to go for the "nice" guy who has a lot to offer - big heart, kind, good income, etc.

  they seem far more likely to go for the aggressive "jerk" or "rebel" who treats them like dirt.. why is that?.

  since i am recently out of the "truth", i still find that i have a couple of people that i really miss.

  i have managed to get past the stage of obsessing about whether or not certain people still think/care about me.. but, every now and then i wonder about my (ex)best friend.

  she was like a sister to me.

  Why dont you just straight out go see her , knock on her door and ask her to keep being your friend?
  Thats what I would do.

  Other than that.
  Of course, people drift out of our lives but those we love we never forget. They always return to memory.
  Why not make contact with them? I do sometimes.We make a lot of assumptions as to why people do things, often they are wrong.
  Try an up front honest approach with your heart on your sleeve. It often works.See, if you confront her with what you want, and she refuses to have anything to do with you,that will be HER decision.
  You will be able to live with yourself because youve tried to do all you can.

  okay, let's do a poll.. since it looks like many of us are watching the olympics, let's vote on which country has the best national anthem.. i love canada's.

  i find myself hoping a canadian will win, so i can sing along to their song.. when the russians win, i get a cold disquieting feeling, since they adopted the old soviet anthem again.

  Well, I aint read the thread, too long.
  But I will say this.The best FLAG in the world is,hands down, the old "Stars and Stripes".
  Great flag.

  Waltzing Matilda was NEVER the national anthem of Australia by the way. But why listen to us? We only live here....
